The Heart of the Matter
The Heart of the Matter
I have often noticed how the early morning sunlight creates amazing compositions of light on the wall in my studio. The intensity of that light increases when shining through coloured glass bottles sitting on the table beneath the window. I am in awe of this ordinary beauty! It's like a poem, a visual haiku.
A FEW MOMENTS LATER THE EFFECT IS GONE.
Inspired by photographer, Uta Barth, I began to explore the hypnotic beauty of light waves passing through coloured glass. I understand the nature of light refraction but, for me, this project was not about science, but about my perception. I manipulated different translucent vases to create rippled and refracted patterns on the wall. In a sense I was drawing with light. The resulting subjects portray the ephemeral qualities of light and the passage of time. The images resonate with me and remind me to be observant, to be in the moment, and to be aware that much of life is temporary.
